Fastlane on DVD!

Yes, apparently it is true, my favourite TV show of all time, the short lived Fastlane on Fox, will return this summer on DVD. Why hadn’t it been released before (since it was originally aired in 2002)? From what’s online the main restriction was licensing all the music in the show. It remains to be seen whether all the original music from the show is included, or if they have modified the episodes at all. Fortunately I have a *cough* backup *cough* of the old episodes, so I’ll be able to find out soon after I receive the box set that I ordered from Amazon.ca. They have it on sale for $56, and you can save an additional $10 if you are a ‘new customer’ (create a new account to be a new customer), and also offer free shipping. You can order it here
Now why exactly do I like the show so much? It had a good mix of action, suspense, comedy, and drama, especially for a buddy cop show. Cars, chicks, and guns make for a pretty cool show, especially for an 18 year old-ish teenager. It’s unfortunate that the show didn’t get a second season, mainly because the show was moved to Friday nights which isn’t the best time slot for this kind of show. Apparently production costs were pretty high as well, which wouldn’t help when the show wasn’t pulling in the numbers that FOX needed. McG, who produced and directed the show, went on to do Charlie’s Angels 1 and 2, and also served as executive producer for two of my other favourite tv shows; The O.C., and Chuck (which is thankfully still in production.
I’m hoping (fingers crossed), that they might be able to make a Fastlane movie some day, but I doubt the chances of that are high. The best thing we can do as consumers is buy the DVD and get some momentum building to bring it back!
